GENERAL INFORMATION
Knoxville Area Transit (KAT) is the City of Knoxville's transit system, operating buses, trolleys and paratransit service across the city. Our funding comes from the City of Knoxville, the state and federal governments and fare revenues. Many of our operators and service personnel are members of the Amalgamated Transit Union local #1164.

KAT carries over 3 million passenger trips each year.

Knoxville Area Transit is committed to access and equity in employment and in the provision of transportation services.

CUMBERLAND FREE FARE ZONE
The Cumberland Connect construction project is an ongoing project that will affect traffic along Cumberland for the next two years. KAT is a great way to get to, and through the Cumberland Avenue area during this construction! KAT's Fare-Free zone allows you to ride for free anywhere you see the Fare Free Zone bus stop signs along Cumberland Avenue!

Cumberland Avenue at 22nd has now reopened all lanes, so KAT routes are currently on regular routing in that area.  This includes Rt. 10, 11 and 42.  Remember,  you can ride FREE by boarding at any Fare Free Zone stop sign along the Cumberland Avenue corridor.

If you need help planning your trip around any current detours, contact a Transit Agent at 637-3000.
